Parishioners of St Sebastian Church Bendur held a felicitation ceremony for the newly elected corporators and the MLA from South constituency, at the St Sebastian Jubilee Hall, here on June 15.

The programme began with an invocation. Assistant Parish Priest of Bendur Fr John Baptist Moras welcomed the gathering. All the 8 corporators from Mangalore South Constituency namely Roopa D Bangera, Akhila Alva, Sabitha Misquith, Asha D’Silva, Ashok Kumar, Keshav, Vinay Raj and Naveen D’Souza were felicitated by Fr Antony Serrao with shawl, garland, memento and fruits. MLA J R Lobo was also felicitated on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering Lobo said that peoples love and support will encourage us to serve the society in a better way. Becoming a corporator or MLA is not an easy task. People come with various problems everyday to the corporators or MLA’s. Whenever the representatives do good, praise them and pat their back which will encourage them to serve more. Most of the people have the habit of talking negative whenever there are some mistakes. But whenever something good has been done, people hesitate to praise.

Further Lobo thanked all the 2 lakh voters of Mangalore south constituency and everyone who had worked for his success. Lobo said, “I am the representative for all the communities of 2 lakh people in Mangalore South Constituency. If all the people accept me as their representative, it will give a boost for me to work for the development of the constituency”.  He assured to work for the betterment of the people.

Fr Antony Serrao speaking on the occasion said, “Our government is here, our own parishioner has become the Member of the Legislative Assembly and Lobo has got an opportunity to serve the society”. Fr Serrao further said that if you need to develop the district,  work should start from Mangalore South Constituency. Now a days the rain water instead of flowing through the rain water drains, is flowing on the roads. Normally people used to walk on the footpaths but people are walking on the road because there are no proper footpaths.

Serrao put forth some demands and said that Mangalore should be a secular district and South Constituency should be the role model so that others can follow. He urged all the corporators to be corruption free and make the people of the constituency as well as the district to live in peace and harmony.

Asst Parish Priest Fr Paul Crasta delivered the vote of thanks. Vice President Parish Pastoral Committee Ronald Walder, Secretary Laveena John, Padua P U College Principal Michael Santhumayor were also present.
